MHLAC’s mission, since it was established by the Legislature more than 45 years ago, is to protect vulnerable persons with mental health concerns from abuse and to help them access adequate mental health care. A majority of MHLAC’s funding is received through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s state budget. MHLAC’s budgetary line, 0321-2000 supports MHLAC’s service provision and operations.
We would not be able to do the great work we do without the support of the legislature as well as the generosity of local organizations. For close to 20 years, MHLAC has received funding support from the Mass Bar Foundation which helps to defray the costs of the MHLAC Family Legal Support Project. MHLAC is also very fortunate to have had so many stellar volunteers dedicate their time and efforts through the years. For over 10 years, a member of the AmeriCorps Legal Advocates of Massachusetts program joins our staff for a year. Through our school year and summer internship programming, we’ve benefited from having so many law schools in the area and have really enjoyed having such a diverse group of students contribute to our work.
