This is the Take Action page for bill H.1960 (An Act Establishing Presumptive Parole).

Latest Updates (10/29/25):

Hello friends and supporters of H.1960,

This bill was heard before the Joint Committee on the Judiciary on June 3, 2025. The House deadline to report bills out of committee is sixty days after hearing – but at this juncture, this bill appears to be alive and well and still in committee. That said, the sooner you act, the better.

What we need now is calls and emails to the chairs and committee members!

Please reach out to any and all members of the Judiciary Committee, and in particular the chairs, Senator Lydia Edwards (Third Suffolk) and Representative Michael Day (31st Middlesex), as they have the greatest influence in determining what is voted favorably out of committee.

Senate chair: Lydia.Edwards@masenate.gov (617-722-1634)

House chair: Michael.Day@mahouse.gov (617-722-2396)

Senate vice chair: James.Eldridge@masenate.gov (617-722-1120)

House vice chair: Brandy.FlukerReid@mahouse.gov (617-722-2396)

If you happen to be a constituent of any of the relevant legislators, PLEASE mention that (and include your address) in your email or call to their office – they always want to hear from constituents.

Not sure who your Representative is? You can enter your address to check here!

If you have community/family members or other interested individuals who are working on parole or prison reform issues, please ask them to also make calls or send emails. Feel free to reference the bill’s fact sheet here, which you can use for talking points when contacting legislators.

Thank you all so much for your support and efforts on this critically important bill. Act now so we can make this the year to make parole reform a reality!
